What is school compared to the Swedish school?

The school is very different. First of all don’t they have one group and then different subjects with that group. They have first one class that starts at 07:37 am. Then it’s is another class that starts later with a new group of people, like in high school movies. When the first two classes are over half of the school has lunch while the rest of the students have one more class. After that the switch. The lunch is also very different. There is a cafeteria where you eat food you brought to school or you can buy food. There is wraps to buy, pizza, cookies, ice cream, pasta and cheese and some other stuff. The wraps you get to decide what is going to be in them and which bread. They are really tasty I think. The lunch usually cost fewer than 4 dollars. There is also a school restaurant to buy food. They haven’t opened yet but they are opening on Tuesday next week. The restaurant is where I have my food service class. Right now we are learning how to make the food and when the open we get to make it. I don’t really know what you can buy there except for pizzas and wraps.

Have you visited the Amish people?

I haven’t gone to their house yet but I’ve talked to them. Perry is the name of one of them. He is a really good friend of the family I live in. His son is also a good friend but he left the Amish community to live like we do and therefore wont his family talk to him anymore. Perry tasted the chocolate from Sweden and loved it! 

Which subject to you have?

First hour I have astronomy, second hour I have graphics, third hour I have food service, forth hour I have earth science and fifth hour I have English. 

What do you do on the week-ends?

I do different stuff every week-end. This week-end we first went shopping (on Friday), then we went to Jordan’s work and talked to him and Nick a while. After that we went to Chloe’s bonfire and I met some nice people there.

On Saturday we went to Romana’s horse show. It was freezing and it rained. But I ate to huge and sooo tasty wraps and that was good. It’s also fun to see people ride western style.

On Sunday me and Tanya went to a meeting with our coordinator, Lisa, and some other exchange students. There were no one from Sweden but two from Norway. But I didn’t have time to talk to them. The meeting was mostly to help the student and the host parents to talk to each other about rules and stuff. 

What do you do after school?

After school I sometimes go to a store, or to Tanya’s work to talk to her, or to the gas station or something like that. Then we go home. Usually I and Romana get something to eat and watch TV a little while. After that we feed to horses and clean the stable. Today I painted the fence. I talk to my host mother sometimes about stuff. It depends on the day.

Fashion!

This post is about the fashion here.

The first thing I noticed when it comes to the fashion here is that it’s not very different. Some things that they wear here would some people in Sweden love to wear too. But mostly, the things that are in style right now here, has already been in style in Sweden.

Animal patterns are very much in style here, especially zebra patterns. Everyone loves it. When I came here my room was purple theme with zebra patterns. My towel, pillow, blanket, carpet is zebra patterns. A funny thing about that is a lot of girls have covers for their horses with it. So the horses look like zebra-horses, haha.

Another big thing here is bling-things (or whatever it’s called). Fake diamantes everywhere. They have it on their trousers, belts, big earrings with fake diamantes, bags and so on.

Sarah, you would love the horse things here!!!

They also wear more t-shirts and less “t-shirts without sleeves” like we do in Sweden. The trousers are, as you probably know, “baggier” and straighter than we have.

Almost everyone’s hair is so pretty here!!!

I’m going to tell you how a normal day for me looks like (a request from my mum).

It usually starts with me waking up a 6 am (if I’m going to take a shower) or half past 7 if I’m not going to take a shower. Then I go downstairs and make my lunch (one sandwich with cheese and turkey, grapes and one energy bar), meanwhile I toast one bread slice for breakfast. When I’m done I go upstairs and finish my slice of bread while I do my hair and makeup.

Then me and Romana go to school (she drives us) and school starts at 07:37 so we’ll be there at around 07:27. I always go to my looker and leave my bag there and then go to my first class which is astronomy. The next class I graphics and that class have Romana too so we meet there and have graphics. After graphics I usually go to food service but now I think I have lunch instead. So I’ll go to lunch with Romana and after lunch I have food service. The class after that is earth science and the last one is English.

After school me and Romana go home and eat something and then feed the horses and stuff in the stable. Then I do homework, or we go somewhere or we sit and watch tv, or we ride.

That’s pretty much what a normal day looks like. But sometimes after school we go to the food store or the pharmacy or starbucks or something els.

That was Pringles who wanted to say hello by putting her paw on my keyboard.

She is so annoying sometimes but she is also so cute! She walks into room in the night and jumps on my bed (or on me) and scares me to death.

Yesterday I didn’t do much. Just school and then I and Romana rode a bit. When we put the horses in the pasture (or whatever it’s called), Ace (one of the horses) gets so happy so he starts to run and jump and stuff and Scooter (one of the dogs) likes to chase and play with him. But since Ace doesn’t really likes dogs he just runs without paying any attention to him and yesterday he ran over Scooter and kicked him in the head! Scooter rolled on the grass and then he got up and continued to run after Ace like nothing had happen. Crazy dog…

Today I’m going to make pancakes (Swedish style) so we’ll see how that goes… I’m not very good at that but
I’ll try. After that I have homework to do. Both in astronomy and earth science L

In food service today we made pizza! And we got to eat it after we were done! Yaay! I was really happy haha.

Yesterday I ride! It was so much fun!!! I and Romana loped around and after a while we switched horses. It was really great!

Today we woke up really early. It felt like in the middle on the night haha… Anyway, I went with Romana to school to choose subject and fix my schedule. When we were done I started school for real! My subjects are astronomy, graphics, US history, earth science and English.

Soon we’re going to a football game :D

I wrote this two day's ago but I couldn’t post in until today because I didn’t have internet.

Today was the day I had been nervous about for a year! I’ll tell you from the beginning. Everyone from explorius would leave the hotel in the middle of the night (2-3 am) so we thought that all the Swedish girls in the group would have a sleepover in the of the girl’s hotel room. But eventually I and Maja (my roomie) went to our room to get some sleep. So we woke up after maybe two hours to go to the airport. There, everyone split up to go to their gate and terminal but as lucky as I was, I found a girl from Norway who were taking the same flight as me so we could help each other to find our gates when we landed in Detroit to change flight. Anyway, everything went fine and eventually I came to the airport where my host family was going to pick me up.

I walked out of the plane and I saw one girl and one woman with a sign that said “Welcome Yael!”.  Yaay! Finally! Both of them are great, the house is wonderful, the horses are beautiful, the dogs are adorable and my bed is sooo comfortable! I met Tanya’s older daughter and her sons, Romana’s boyfriend, Tanya’s boyfriend and a neighbor and they all seems like really nice people.

Tomorrow me and Tanya will go to the school and write me in and also buy a cell phone to me.

I can’t wait to start school! I’m so excited but also incredibly nervous!!!

I know I didn’t write a post right when I got to New York like I promised but I’m going to write now instead. The flight went like expected. We just sat there and waited for 7,5 hours… But I’ve met some wonderful people and today we all went to New York City. Tomorrow we’ll go there again and on Monday morning we will fly to where we are going to live (in my case Michigan).

Anyway, today we went to central park, Times Square and a lot more. We went shopping on forever XXl, sephora and more. Tomorrow we're going to VICTORIA'S SECRET!!!!
